Questions about my website services?
Here are answers to some common questions about hiring me to build your website.
Still have a question? Feel free to get in touch with me.
What services do you provide?
I provide web design and development services for new websites or for existing sites that need to be redone or refreshed.
I also do print design for basic marketing, such as postcards, flyers and newsletters.
How much will my project cost?
The cost of your project will depend on a few factors. For new websites: the size of the site, quantity and quality of images, copywriting, and any special functionality.
Pricing for a basic five-page WordPress website starts at $2,000.
If you already have a WordPress website and need some tweaks or new functionality, I may be able to help. In order to determine if I can effectively work with your existing site, I will need access to the back end of the site. Then I’ll give you an estimate based on my hourly rate.
Why should I use WordPress?
There are many good reasons that I use WordPress for most of my website work.
First, it’s more flexible than some of the do-it-yourself applications such as Wix and Squarespace. It’s easy to change colors and fonts, as well as some layout changes.
If site owners want to make changes to the content, such as verbiage and/or images, WordPress makes editing quite easy.

How long will my project take?
That depends on a few things:
- the size and technical nature of your project
- how quickly you are able to provide content
- how much editing your content will need to be readable and legible on the Web
- timely communication between us as the site is being built
Once you’ve given me information about your business and what you’d like to display on your website, the actual build can take anywhere between two to eight weeks
What do I need in order to get started on a website?
You will need to purchase a domain name and obtain web hosting. I can help you with this.
Who provides the content?
You will provide the content for your website project, since you know your business. We will work together to decide the best way to describe and present what you do, how you work and inspire confidence.
How do we begin the process?
First, we’ll discuss your needs and your website goals. If you are in the Seattle area, we can meet in person.
Then, based on our discussion, I’ll draw up a proposal for your project. Once the proposal has been finalized, I will send you the website contract and an invoice for the deposit.
During the build and development
We’ll decide on major categories for your website, and choose what should appear in the primary navigation menu.
You provide more detailed content, such as the services you offer, how people can contact you, why people should choose you, your experience, and other pertinent information.
I will give you access to the development site, so that you can view the site in the various stages of development.
Can you host my website?
I don’t provide web hosting solutions for my clients. I like them to have their own accounts.
However, if you host your website with the same hosting company I use, I can become a collaborator for your site. Collaboration allows me to have easy access to the back end of your site to make any changes you’d like.
After the Build and Launch
Will I be able to make changes to my website?
Yes, if you or your staff would like to edit the text and images. One of the reasons that people choose WordPress is because it’s fairly easy to change the wording and/or the images. I can give you some basic training on how to do it.
I don’t want to make changes myself. Can you do it for me?
Many people don’t have the time or are not interested in making changes on their own. I’m here to help.
If you’d like me to make edits for you, you can let me know what you need and I can give you an estimate based on my time and hourly rate.
What if I’d like to make other changes to the site?
If the changes you’d like involve more than editing text and images, I can do that for you. Based on what changes you’d like, I’ll give you an estimate for that work.
Can you maintain my website? What does that involve?
Maintaining a WordPress website involves keeping WordPress updated to the latest version and updating the plugins whenever a new version is published.
Having current backups is an essential part of a WordPress website, to protect you if there are any problems. Most hosting companies offer daily backups, or you can use a backup plugin.
If you’d like me to monitor your website for updates, perform backups, and do basic search-engine optimization, I can do this for $50 per month. I will send you monthly reports on updates, backups and search-engine rankings.
